When you request access, we store your name, email address, stated German level, learning goal, device preference, consent timestamp, and our review status or internal notes about your request. The request does not create an account. Only authorized administrators can view these details. You can ask the privacy contact to delete your request.

Common situations are checked against an editorially reviewed lesson pool first. If no suitable reviewed lesson exists and live generation is enabled, your situation description is sent through our API to Microsoft Azure AI. The raw text is stored once per request in Supabase and removed after the selected lesson is prepared or after an unused request expires. The shortened situation label, private lesson version, typed practice answers, results, learner-specific answer alternatives, and review evidence remain until you delete the lesson or account. Authorized reviewers may inspect the shortened label and generated lesson. Only after editorial changes, removal of personal details, and explicit approval may a generalized copy with reviewed search aliases enter the shared lesson pool. That shared copy contains no account ID, raw request, answers, or progress and may remain after the originating private lesson is deleted. Interrupted lessons and review sessions are also saved on your device for your account. Please omit unnecessary names, addresses, account numbers, and other private details.

Supabase stores your account email, a server-timestamped record of your consent, learning outcomes, assignment status, practice results, skill evidence, submitted feedback, and—if you use Learning Partner—partner profile, pairing, encouragement, call, and safety-report data. For situational lessons, we also store the accepted language plan, visible facts derived from a generated image or selected photo, brief speaking feedback, goal completion, and reliably detected use of taught language. The photo itself, raw recordings, and full transcripts are not stored in Supabase. For push notifications, we store a private device token plus technical app and time-zone details. For writing, we store your submitted text with your account so you can revise it once, together with its text hash, word count, rubric scores, and brief feedback. Generic grammar-rule notes derived from corrections may be stored as personal review items; full transcripts and your original and corrected sentences remain locally on your device, as do unfinished activities, retry recordings, selected photos, generated practice images, and privacy-safe diagnostics.

Recordings are sent over HTTPS through our API to Azure Speech or Deepgram, depending on configuration. When you choose or take a photo for a situational lesson, it is sent over HTTPS through our API to Microsoft Azure AI for image analysis. The photo is processed only for that request; bounded visible facts, objects, a setting description, and possible communicative goals are retained. Submitted writing is assessed through our API by Microsoft Azure AI. These providers process the inputs to provide transcripts, visual context, and learning feedback. Our API does not persist recordings, uploaded photo files, or returned full transcripts. Submitted writing is stored separately for its learner in Supabase so the one-time revision works, and is removed with account deletion.

LiveKit carries microphone-only audio between two adults who explicitly paired with each other. Deutschbar does not record or transcribe these calls. We store limited call metadata, feedback, blocks, and safety reports for operation and moderation.

Daily practice reminders are scheduled locally on your device. If you enable Learning Partner alerts, Deutschbar uses the Expo Push Service and Apple Push Notification Service or Firebase Cloud Messaging. Notifications do not include transcripts, audio recordings, or your email address.

You can report a specific situational lesson as incorrect, irrelevant, or inappropriate. We store the report with the affected private lesson version. Limited usage events record items such as goals shown, lesson stages reached, completion, successful generation, and response times; they do not contain your raw situation text or typed answers. Reported generated versions are not suggested again.

The account screen lets you export your data, correct your starting level, or retake the level check. From a situational lesson you can delete that individual private lesson and its answers; redacted aggregate learning progress and review scheduling remain. You can also permanently delete your account together with all local learner-owned content and recordings.

Unused raw situation requests expire after 30 minutes. Raw text for a used request is removed after the selected lesson is prepared. Private lesson content, derived visual facts, brief speaking assessments, reports, and limited usage events remain until the individual lesson or account is deleted, as applicable. Local data—including selected photos, generated scenes, conversation turns, and audio—remains until app deletion, an account switch, lesson deletion, or account deletion. Supabase learning, feedback, push, and Learning Partner data—including safety reports—is removed with account deletion. Daily usage records contain only pseudonymous identifiers and counters.

Deutschbar is currently intended for people aged 18 or older. It does not provide a parental-consent flow for minors.
